Making Ornaments

This year we decided to make two kinds of ornaments – basic salt dough painted ornaments and fun glitter painted CD ornaments.

For the salt dough ornaments, we just mixed flour and salt together, and then added water to form a dough. We rolled it out and cut out cookie cutter shapes. After baking them for about an hour at 250 degrees and letting them cool, we painted them using acrylic paints and then added some glitter. They weren’t too varied with their color choices, but they had fun.

The CD ornaments were really fun. I gave them each a blank CD to paint over with acrylic paints. They both did a good job painting the whole thing and not getting the not-so-washable paint everywhere (well, other than when Sweet Pea was finished painting and decided to stick his hands on top of the CD…..).

Then we added glitter and mixed it around with the paintbrush.

We let them dry and then strung some ribbon through the hole to hang them.
