Does It Dissolve Science Experiment

I set up this simple experiment by having Love Bug pick out five things he wanted to test to see if they dissolved. Well, first I suggested sugar, and then he picked brown sugar, cinnamon, sprinkles, and flour. I took spoonfuls of each and set them out beside five glasses of water.

We talked about which of the five things he thought would dissolve in water and why. I was really impressed with some of his reasoning and how he articulated it. For the flour he said, “Yes. Because it’s very soft and very fluffy and very messy and dirty,” and for the sugar he said, “Yeah, because it’s so small.” The only one he didn’t think would dissolve was the sprinkles.

Then they added the solids to the water.

And mixed it up.

And then checked to see what had dissolved.

They had such a great time with this. So easy to set up and such a fun experiment.
