Using an idea from Growing a Jeweled Rose, I made three sensory bags for the boys – an ocean sensory, number sensory, and a mixed sensory bag. In each bag, I put some kind of liquid and a few fun items, and then I used packing tape to seal them shut. (One of them popped a hole in the middle during play, but the tape did its job!)
For the ocean bag, I used blue hair gel inside of a plastic bag and added in a few plastic ocean creatures, some little rocks and a few tiny shells. The other two bags were body wash inside plastic bags. Both the hair gel and body wash inside of a bag make a really cool squishy texture. For the numbers bag, I included small foam numbers. Once the boys started playing with it and moving the colorful numbers around, some of the dye started to bleed, turning the liquid inside pink, which was also fun. The other bag had marbles, foam balls, beads, and pompoms. It was a mix of hard and soft materials.
The bags were fun to look at,
and even smell (since the body wash had a pretty strong flowery scent).
I thought for sure Sweet Pea would enjoy it for a while and Love Bug would only be interested for a few minutes, but Love Bug was so into it. He was having so much fun finding all the different things in the mixed bag. It was really easy and lots of fun for both of them.
