I’ve been wanting to do this candy dissolving project for a while, so when I saw a box of Skittles in the $1 bin at the grocery store today, I had to get some. I gave him a bowl of green, purple, and orange ones and set out three glasses of hot water. Then he sorted them by color and counted them as he plopped them into the water. Since they’re basically pure sugar, they dissolve pretty quickly and make colored water. He really got a kick out of watching the water turn colors, and he was saying they were all glasses of juice and pretending to drink them. He said the purple looked like cranberry juice, the green was grape green juice, and the orange was orange juice. Then he decided to try spooning some from one glass to another and ultimately pouring from one glass the another (making one glass of greenish brown and one that was pinkish orange). Super fun and easy, but I probably should’ve used some sort of cup that would’ve been easier for pouring together (though that wasn’t part of the original plan).
